The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict 2 – letter to S. NYC. 2009
… wow, I see that you are really well informed about this whole subject... I agree that you can't negotiate with Hamas, and the only chance for peace with the Palestinian people is if they have other leaders, really moderate, and with no blood on their hands. But on the other hand, all these military operations don't achieve the task either. Unfortunately, no country in the world has been able to stop or effectively battle terror. Terror organizations don't stop doing what they do because of military actions against them or pressure or fear. They are beyond all that. The only thing that makes terrorist 'lay down their weapons' is when they are getting enough benefits that the will to die is not worth it anymore. And that's usually when they get enough money, or get comfortable, or when their ‘oppressors’ give them something to shut their mouths with... that's how it’s been throughout history, and unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be changing...

So I think the only way Hamas would stop operating or would at least stop gaining power among the Palestinian people, is if the Palestinian people improve their economical situation tremendously, and get their own jobs, their own independent life. Right now they don’t have much to loose. Dying is not such a bad alternative for them, so they don't care. But if they get fat and comfy, and their hurt national ego is attended to, then they would have a lot to loose... how to do all that ? I don't really know... well, maybe a state first, and then TONS of international money and help to build their economy, cities, streets, running water, infrastructure, schools, all that... that's my opinion, as someone who has lived there, through many military operations and wars, and 'negotiations', and more wars, and more 'negotiations', which didn't change anything...
